When we talk about a country like North Korea, it is still ambiguity to most of us mainly because of their long unstable political stance and lack of positive media exposure of this much secreted nation. Nevertheless that shouldn't deny the general public of their amazing food that has not changed for centuries and still well influenced by tradition which reflects their culture. Let's just say you won't be seeing North Korean Fushion dishes any time soon now compared to their counterpart of commercially successful South Korean food that is overcrowding South Jakarta. After you order your food at Pyong yang an array of free banchan (Korean appetizers) is served which includes steamed and lightly cooked sprouts, potatoes in sweet soy sauce, steamed garlic spinach, exotic north Korean vegetables, a very tasty traditional Omelette and of course Kimchi. The Kimchi (traditional spicy preserved chinese cabbage) is less spicy and sweet compared to the ones served in south Korean restaurants. Simply put, Pyong Yang Restaurant in Jakarta offers traditional Korean food what The Koreans describe as 'food that our grandparents lived on'. Also when you look into their menus it is filled royal styled cuisines and also the much enjoyed (by Koreans) but highly controversial dog meat soup. We won't touch this issue with a ten foot pole.

However one of the biggest attractions of Pyong yang Restaurant is the fact that the servers are all stunning North Korean ladies in their traditional custom dress, Hanbok with impeccable service and extremely attentive towards the preparation and serving of the food.

Nonetheless we highly recommend the roast pig which is extraordinarily tender with a rich sweet sauce and also the Sundae, which is basically blood pork sausage stuffed with sticky rice. Fresh sashimi and traditional claypot soups are also available. Apparently the Grilled duck is one of the favorite menus ordered by customers where it is served and cooked right infront of you and also the Mountain Paekdu vegetables (Bracken).

Every Friday and on the weekends at 8 pm sharp there is also a group song performance by the North Korean ladies that makes Pyong Yang surely a astoundingly enjoyable dining experience.
