Editorial Review

One of the reasons why Vietnamese food has received such a good reception in Indonesia is mainly due to its similarity to Indonesian food. So if you are Indonesian or even South East Asian, Vietopia will definitely suit your taste buds. This modest restaurant with a romantic vibe offers customers with a variety of mouthwatering dishes.

For starters, we highly recommend that you try Bo Du Du which is essentially a green papaya and beef salad in vinegar over lettuce. As obvious, it is spicy, delicious and very refreshing, thus bound to increase one’s appetite. Goi Cuon, which is basically fresh steamed spring rolls filled with shrimp, chicken, egg and vegetables, accompanied with thick spicy dipping sauce is also worth a try. As for the main course, the Ga Xao Dua Hanh is an excellent pick, consisting of sauteed chicken with pineapple and cashew nuts served inside half a pineapple. As delicious as it looks, this dish is at the same time a sight for sore eyes.

Another option is the Mu Chien Voi Gung fried grouper with mushrooms, spring onion and red chili, served with your preferred choice of sauce (galangal or nuoc mam). Nuoc mam is a traditional Vietnamese fish sauce that is transparent, thick and spicy. It is similar to Nam Pla in Thailand dishes.

You should always end your meal with a sweet dessert such as the creamy creme brulee or a Co-Ple punch which is prepared from a combination of coconut and pineapple.

    Shame on You

    Pros: great food
    Cons: everything else
Since my last visit several months ago the place looks like a "warung" looks like it has never been cleaned. Several flies. Soft furnishings disgracefully dirty. Peeled paint. Sticky floor. Cobwebs. At 6:30 on a Saturday night 29th June myself and partner are the only two here. We have enjoyed a dozen visits here in the past.. Food great. Staff provocative. Immature. I feel like throwing them through the window. The noise from the lad cleaning the knives forks plates bowls is ongoing and extremely loud. The little girl laughing at the fun of annoying the Bule (white man) I asked for the remainder of my noodles to be boxed. I shall find a civilised place to finish it. When my appitite has returned. What a bloody shame. (But I am not surprised after all This is Jakarta. The noisiest city I have ever been (26 countries Hundreds of cities)
