A restaurant with the name 'Remboelan', which means "full moon", located on arguably the grandest location for a restaurant at Plaza Senayan; the circular mezzanine accessible by a lavish staircase, and as such the theme and location of this restaurant are a match made in heaven. Jakartans should be grateful that someone in the Big Durian realises that there are not enough authentic, traditional, opulent and at the same time affordable eateries in town. At Remboelan, you can find the many dishes that were once lost or forgotten, have been revived, spiced up and are back on the plates to give us a real treat.

You can find dishes such as Rujak Serut and Lontong Cap Gomeh and expect many more other treats. Plus every weekday from 2pm till 5 pm, is High Tea time and you get to enjoy their array of fresh fruit drinks and teas with a choice of their amazing snacks such as Lumpia and fried bananas.

For main course, we definitely recommend one of their Rice Set dishes. This dish comes with at least 4 different types of sides from Rendang, Tempeh and vegetables. We decided to give Nasi Berkat a go, where the bottom half of the rice is white rice and the top part, yellow rice. It is accompanied with delicious Empal beef, pickles, omelet, vegetables with shredded coconut and herbs and also fermented bean curd. It is simply an amazing and fulfilling dish. But if you wish to add some kick to this dish, then order a portion of their famous Padang-style crispy Dendeng Balado which has got to be one of their favourite dishes amongst their customers.

For something new, try the Stingray cooked traditional Semarang style with their special coconut sauce. Stingray maybe a major turnoff for some customers due to the ammonia-like smell, but at Remboelan they cook it in such a special way that we are sure you can get to enjoy eating this fish.

For desserts, we recommend you go Traditional Javanese and nothing represents this region better than Aneka Bubur Remboelan which is basically a parfait of Bubur sumsum, black sticky rice and sweet potato balls called candil.

A superb dining experience and a great place to introduce friends and family to real Indonesian soul food or for those who just miss their childhood food.

Akhirnya, ada restoran Indonesia yang baru

Restoran ini tergolong baru di Plaza Senayan. Awalnya saya tertarik untuk mencoba karena tempatnya kelihatan mewah; jarang ada restoran Indonesia yang tempatnya mewah seperti ini. Konsep menu nya lauk dan nasi dipisah, jadi satu lauk bisa dimakan bersama-sama. Porsi makan tidak terlalu besar. Tempat sedikit berdempetan, walau dari luar kelihatannya luas dan mewah. Untung saja kemarin itu masih sepi, jadi enggak terlalu kerasa sempitnya. Jujur saja tempatnya tidak terlalu 'cozy' untuk makan-makan sekeluarga, rasanya enggak mau lama-lama disana. Pelayan mudah dicari. Kami sekeluarga (4 orang) habis sekitar 400.000 untuk makan disana. Rekomendasi: Kepiting Soka, Nasi Goreng Remboelan.
