The suite of contracts published by FIDIC (Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils) are widely used on international construction projects, and the number of countries with projects adopting FIDIC contracts has increased rapidly. The ability to resolve claims with limited or no expense or delays on work is a key skill of the contract/project manager, and requires an understanding of the FIDIC provisions for consideration and resolution of claims.

FIDIC Contract: Making and Managing Claims is the second part of FIDIC Contracts Masterclass series and designed to provide you with the answers on the why, when, and how claims are assessed and resolved under FIDIC Contracts.

·      Explain role of Engineers in determining claims.

·      State the processes and methods for administrating claims, notices, suspension and termination.

·      State process of escalating dispute to Dispute Adjudication Board, amicable settlement, and arbitration.

·      Quantify value of claims for payment.

About the trainer

Julian P B Smith - LL.M, MBA, C.Build E, FRICS, FCIArb, FCABE, MCIOB, FCMI, MDBF

Julian is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience in various commercial management and consulting positions with companies engaged in construction, specialist engineering and commercial real estate development. His specific project experience, at all stages of the project life-cycle and at a corporate level includes Airports, Railways, Power, Public and Commercial Real Estate Projects (including Hospitals, Hotels and Mixed-Use Developments), and Marine Civil Engineering work.

 

Based in the Asia Pacific region (currently Manila), Julian has worked extensively in the Asia Pacific region, including: Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, China, Thailand, the Philippines and Japan, and has had exposure to projects further afield in Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Latin America. Julian is a founding director of S&G Asia, incorporated – a Philippines based company providing commercial and contractual services to developers, engineers and contractors.
