Mad for Garlic is surely going to hit the right spot for any Jakartan seeking a culinary adventure as they incorporate over 40 creative Italian dishes with an overdose of the herbal 'wonder drug', Garlic. With names of dishes such as Dracula Killers and Dancing Salsa Rice with Beef, you wonder if you can take their dish seriously but once your meal is served, you will understand their creative approach.

Dracula Killers is one of the favourite starters at Mad for Garlic. Upon first glance this dish reminds you of an escargot dish as it is served with soft bread and what seems like snails drenched in hot olive oil, but in this case it is a couple of cloves of garlic. Some may steer clear of this starter as it may be too pungent but because the garlic is all baked beforehand it is rather soft and less potent.

For a starter dish that is excellent to share, we recommend you go with another popular choice as well, the Garlic Snowing Pizza. This is a thin crusted pizza with a combination of sweet white sauce, shrimp and pineapple chunks that is served on an overgenerous portion of, well you guessed it, whole garlic. Why they call this dish a snowing pizza is because they sprinkle thin slices of deep fried garlic all over the pizza which at first resembles corn flakes. This dish is truly original and delicious.

For mains, you get a choice of rice, steak and of course pasta dishes. We started off with giving one of their spiciest dishes a go, the Arrabbiata pasta which in Italian means angry. This fiery spaghetti is served with a fiery and oily chilli sauce, crushed peppers and tomatoes and also bacon slices. For a less fiery main, you cannot go wrong with the Dancing Salsa Rice with Beef. The rice, tender beef and bean sprouts are served on a hot plate with a sunny side up egg and is oddly accompanied with salsa dressing and Jalapeano peppers. It sounds very peculiar, but when all these ingredients are mixed and jumbled up it becomes one of the best fusion 'nasi goreng' you will have ever had! This dish is very similar to the Korean dish called Bee Bim Bab which is served similarly, so it comes as no surprise when you find out that Mad for Garlic actually originates from Korea and is also one of the most popular restaurant chains there.
